Madden has seen many features that have changed throughout its 27 years of existence. For a quick background on sub-forms in formation. The feature was initially a thing but was "out of the scope" in Madden NFL 24 (meaning the feature wasn't planned to be included in this game). This was until me as well as our Madden NFL development team started to note all the positive feedback this feature received from the Madden NFL community. The countless GameChangers' posts, tweets wish lists, tweets and feedback made our team at Tiburon realize that it was a must-have feature if we wanted to be determined to make significant adjustments to improve Franchise mode. This is the kind of feedback that prompted us to do all the work needed to incorporate this feature in Madden NFL 24.

Let's discuss how the feature actually functions. For those not familiar with formation subs an easy definition is that now players can now reserve starters for specific positions, based on their formation, regardless of the way in which players are organized in the depth charts.
In Franchise mode the mechanic operates as follows:
In the franchise mode hub, navigate to the Manage Tab and then choose from the "My" Coach menu.
In your My Coach menu, select the Formation Subs
The playbooks loaded in the submenu for formation are the playbooks you've set in the scheme section within My Coach menu.
When you are in the formation Subs menu, you can switch between defense and offense simply by pressing the LB or RB buttons (L1 or R1 for PS4).
Choose to edit defense or offense and then browse through the various formations using the L-stick and holding the LT button (L2 for PS5). Select a formation that you wish to edit, then release LT and the team will fill up. After that, release LT and utilize the L-stick to move through the different sets in the set they picked.
Then, scroll down and highlight the set you wish to edit. Then press"A" (X for PS5) that lets you browse through the players of the set that you have selected. You can then select the player you wish to alter using the button A (X PS5). PS5) once you've highlighted and scrolled through the player.
In this section, browse through the list of players available to select the replacement. By pressing the button A (X for PlayStation 5) on the substitute player will sub him in for the formation you selected. You can also reset subs created to any particular formation by selecting the one that you want to reset using the button for RT (R2 on PS4).
